The ISRT (International Spinal Research Trust), better known as Spinal Research, was founded in 1980 by Stewart Yesner, a young lawyer who was paralyzed in a car accident in Zambia in 1974. Since its founding, the charity has raised over £21 million to fund research into spinal cord repair. The Spinal Research Translational Initiative seeks to move key developments from the laboratory towards clinical trials to benefit real people.
